Virtual protest meeting against GCM’s AGM

Global Coal Management (former Asia Energy), an AIM listed British coal mine company has convened its virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 25 February at 10.00am. It will be a closed virtual meeting with a minimum number of directors and shareholders.

We will not let this so called AGM go unchallenged. We would like to hold an online protest meeting on the 25th February at 4pm (UK time) to voice our protest against this fraudulent AGM.

Following the mass upsurge against GCM and its proposed open pit mine in 2006, the company was ousted from Phulbari. Since then, it has been trying to get a new contract from the government of Bangladesh without any success.  It does not have any valid contract with Bangladesh government, but is still selling its shares of so called ‘Phulbari Coal Project’ in the Alternative Investment Market in London Stock Exchange (LSE).

If this open pit mine project is implemented, more than 200000 people will be displaced from 150 villages in Phulbari, located in north western part of Bangladesh. It will also destroy 14,000 acres of fertile agricultural land and 50,000 water bodies. The project will bring irreparable damage to the life of the local population and their co-system.

GCM is still conspiring to secure a contract for the Phulbari coal project, but the unified local and global resistance will ensure it does not succeed.

Please join our virtual protest against the AGM and voice your opposition.
